Good News

I used to read the news, mainly from Yahoo and Google. I used to watch the news, mainly anything that keeps me in the loop with today's world.

Now, I don't read or watch the news and here's why:

I've noticed, the news is clouded with negativity. Just scrolling down this popular news site, I see these headlines:

"Prison guards who ‘boiled schizophrenic inmate to death’ will not face charges"

"Here's how much you have to earn to be considered upper class" "Former NC police chief detained at JFK for 90 minutes"

"Australian teenager mauled after jumping into crocodile-infested river for a dare"

These headlines are pretty mild compared to the ones that come out during times of crisis. My point still stands. Where's the positivity? Where's the acceptance? Where's that motivation to make a change in society?

I think we, the world, needs more "good" news. It's emotionally draining to continually soak in the darkness of the media. Humanity should not be defined by negativity but by the positivity that we don't see that often in our media nowadays.

Therefore, I switched to reading Upworthy everyday. (Click the link here!) Upworthy is a media company with 1 simple goal - change the media we read and what we pay attention to. I love this company and I read it everyday. I've learned a lot from reading Upworthy in the last year and I think this is a great change to implement into your life.

They have a great range of posts and topics - from social initiatives for change, inspirational people, perspective posts to posts that combat the norm of society.

Here's the headlines for a given day on Upworthy's page:

I love Upworthy! Every Friday, they have a post dedicated to the good things that happened during the week. I just love their posts because they make you think about change. Often times, they have articles that help you see things in a different perspective or articles that tell you ways you can contribute to society.

Give Upworthy a try and see things from a different perspective - one with less negativity and more initiative to create a good change!
