The Thing With Perfection...

In today's society, people want to be the best but, often times, overlook that to being perfect.

Have to get that 4.0 GPA. Have to get that perfect body. Have to get a 1600 on the SAT. Have to always be on time and never be late. The list goes on and on.

We hold ourselves to that standard of perfection that few can achieve.

Today's quote is one that I created and I think it serves as a reminder to people to stop living life so seriously. Stop chasing perfection. Start living realistically and setting goals that you actually can achieve.

For example,

I was never late. In high school, I was always on time to everything ( class, meetings, events, etc.). I was never late until this one day in college. I was going to a meeting and the bus showed up 45 minutes late. No matter how perfect things may seem, there is always going to be that one day where everything goes wrong. That's life and it's ok to have a bad day.

In another instance, when I took the SAT, my dad wanted me to get the perfect score of 2400 but I wanted an 1800. I knew I would never get a 2400 because the SAT just wasn't for me. When I tested for the SAT and didn't get a 2400, I was honestly disappointed because I bought into this idea that achieving a perfect score was possible. It is but for me it wasn't. I didn't even reach my goal of 1800 because I was couldn't drown out what my dad wanted and fully coach myself to reach my desired score. The lesson that I learned is that you have to be realistic with yourself. If someone is telling you to aim for perfection, don't listen (unless you truly believe you realistically can). Set what you want for yourself as your number 1 priority.

I hope you can relate to what I have to say. Don't be so hard on yourself; imperfection is bound to happen and that's life. Accept it and move on with life.

Thanks for reading. Come back next Thursday for the next inspirational person post!
