For decades, women have been overshadowed by men. Their contributions, though powerful and bold, have always been overshadowed. When thinking of history and people who have made a difference, there is a high chance that your first thought would be a male figure (George Washington, Martin Luther King, Christopher Columbus, Abraham Lincoln and etc). Women figures, like Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Sally Ride and countless others, are usually not the first few names to pop out. Looking at today's society, the equality between males and females are still not the same. That is why I made a list of accomplishments that females have achieved in 2016.

I think we need to be more open and accepting towards females. Females should be treated equally as men (same opportunities, equal pay and etc.). It's like your going to feed your dog but not your cat situation. You got to feed both because what really makes a dog superior. Cats and dogs are both animals at the end of the day, just like how men and women are humans. Because we are all human, we should all be treated equally but that's just my opinion.

Here's the list that highlights females being in the spotlight (most are from last year):

- P&G had an ad on supportive moms for the Olympics.

- Ghostbusters and Bad Moms were movies with all-female lead characters.

- Shows like Supergirl, Quantico, How To Get Away with Murder have a female as a main

character.

- One of the two nominees who ran for president of the U.S. was a female.

- Rwanda has its first female commercial pilot.

- Pakistan has its first female truck driver.

- Taiwan has its first female president.

- Maia Weinstock pitched a Women of NASA Lego set idea that celebrates the history of women in STEM to Lego.

- Anushka Naiknaware invented a bandage that helps patients with chronic wounds heal faster and won the Lego Education Builder Award at the 2016 Google Science Fair.

- Kiara Nirghin invented a biodegradable SAP that can nourish crops during droughts and won 1st place at the 2016 Google Science Fair.

-Team Tactile (consists of 6 females) won the MakeMIT hackathon by inventing the world's first real-time text-to-braille converter.

- NBC debuted a show called Strong and it featured 10 women training to improve physical and mental health.

- Jessie Graff became the first female to complete stage 1 of the National Finals on American Ninja Warrior.

- Nicole Franzel became the first female on Big Brother to defeat a male in the Final 2 and win.

- On Big Brother Over the Top, 2 females made the final 3. A female did win.

- On Worst Bakers in America, the finalists were were both female.

- On Australian Survivor, 8 out of the 12 females competing on the show made it to the half way point of the game. Only 4 males made it to the half way point.

- On the Amazing Race Canada, all of the all-female teams outlasted the all-male teams and an all-female team won.

- On the Amazing Race Asia, 3 of the 4 all-females teams chosen to compete on the show made the top 5.

- Maggie Cooper won season 2 of Home Free. On this season, the contestants assist in building houses for their personal heroes.

- Wonder Woman is finally getting her movie this year.

- The Voice, last fall, had 2 females in the coach lineup. 7 of the 8 stolen contestants in the Battle Rounds were originally on a female coach's team.

- Survivor 32 had a female winner.

- The majority, if not all, of the villains in Once Upon A time, season 4, were female.
